A strange phenomenon occurred this time in Jenin; no one wanted to march with me in the streets. However, when I stopped, the energetic freedom/peace hungry Palestinians grouped around and we all engaged in vigorous dialogue and chanting.

Before the freedom march started, the Palestinian Authorities here arrested me and took me to their offices in the outskirts of Jenin for interrogation. After a couple of telephone calls to members of the the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah, I was released to lead the march.

An Israeli soldier remained next to David to protect him during his visit of the synagogue. All the Israeli soldiers we spoke to in the H2 zone were sympathetic to the march and very much in favor of a peaceful solution. You are welcome to participate in The Interfaith Freedom March on Monday, April 12th, 2010. The group will set out at 2 pm ---------- at the Main Square, Abu Baker Street, Jenin,West Bank.

My friends, it’s no longer possible to say, “Ah, that’s the other side of the World, what does this place have to do with me, my family, my world….”.

The people in the Holy Land, Muslims, Jews and Christians alike, are enshrouded by deep suffering, terrible restrictions on freedoms, limitation of circulation, restricted access, unfair confiscation of land, etc. Whenever that happens in the World, we all suffer because I truly believe, my friends, we are all connected.

When they are free (of suffering, etc.), only then can we be free!

It’s time we all do something about it, in an effective, non-violent way.

Let this march be a precursor to freedom through love and understanding by bringing all people together, as brothers and sisters and as children of the creator, showing the world that all people want peace in Israel and Palestine.

These fearless Palestinian children--so full of hope for peace and freedom, so open to temper their anger, distrust--took over the march, in the rain. They refused refuge under the umbrella and trudged onward, smiling, for peace, brothers and sisters, following the cosmic light. After we spoke to the Israeli soldiers, who blocked our way later (under the watchful eyes of the TIPH, and we warmly thank you for being there!!), about interfaith peace, freedom and love, they appeared to understand and to fully support those principles. They will come around someday, and withdraw from the West Bank and we will embrace them as brothers and sisters, in G_d's light...we, Muslims, Jews, Christians and members of all the faiths.

There is hope, my friends, in even this battle-ravaged place, with peaceful, loving, nonviolent but firm gestures, for understanding, which will lead to peace, and, finally, freedom. But let's free our hearts first...........and they will soften as they feel the light of unconditional love is there waiting, smiling...smiling.

For the second Freedom March, we marched after evening prayers from the front of the Abraham Mosque/Synagogue to zone H2, on Wednesday, August 26th, at around 9:30 pm. Palestinians joined us as they left the Mosque.

Israeli soldiers stopped and questioned us twice but it all worked out, especially since I was reciting Jewish prayers (part of Shema) as well as Muslim and
Christian ones and informed them this was a non-violent, interfaith freedom march
for all people, including for the soldiers. I suggested to them when
peace comes, they can all go home....

They, however, stopped us twice and asked for ID and then threatened to take our poster and loud speaker away. We, however, vigorously articulated our rights to Free Speech.

The soldiers, thank God, listened and were convinced that it was a non-violent event and dedicated to a peaceful, loving march in the light of one Supreme Being...... So we marched onwards. As many as 50 people joined us along the way, men, women and children. It was magical!!

INTERFAITH FREEDOM MARCH

The Interfaith Peace/Freedom March will take place on August 20th, 2009. The group which will set out at 9 am ---------- in front of Hanthala Café, Bab ib Baledeyya, Hebron, West Bank.

The marchers will walk in the light of the creator, following the principles of non-violence and respect for all creatures which are common denominators among the Peoples of the Book (ahl al-kitab) who reside in the area, as it is written in their Holy Scriptures of the Qur’an, the Torah, the New Testament, and in other texts. Muslims, Jews, Christians, Sufis, Kabbalists, Buddhists, Hindus, atheists, etc., and members of all faith communities are welcome.

The truth is that residents of the area are ready for a durable peace, even those who were not ready a year or two ago. Similar to the situation in Ireland and other conflict areas, residents of the area have become fed up with, as well as exhausted and disgusted by the violence and truly seek peaceful coexistence.

As a result, many are laying down their arms, working on interfaith projects to take religion/spirituality out of the conflict and working within the political system to bring about change in a permanent, nonviolent way.

A purpose of this march is also to counter-balance the filtered and false information about the suffering of the people in the area, notably Palestinians and Israelis. Their suffering has become invisible in the face of narratives with no basis in reality and exaggerated reporting on incidents of violence and subsequent retaliation, often dominating the news and distracting the world from focusing on the day to day suffering of the residents in the area.

Moreover, removing West Bank settlements would help in diffusing the tension accelerating since 1967.

As such, the occupation of the West Bank must end as a precursor to peaceful coexistence on the condition that adequate security measures are taken by both sides to secure the borders and preserve the peace.

Another purpose of this event is to facilitate working together of all active freedom/peace/human rights groups in the area and in the World. It is also dedicated to building on humanitarian efforts to improve the education of people in the area (cross-cultural dialogues, mixed student programs, etc.) and to improve the economic environment.

This event will set up a concerted and consistent effort in furtherance of freeing the area from the terrible bondage of continued conflict.

Let this march be a precursor to freedom through love and understanding by bringing all people together, as brothers and sisters and as children of the creator, showing the world that all people want peace in Israel and Palestine.

I was blessed to have organized the Interfaith Freedom March and to welcome a group of enlightened and beautiful participants. I was also privileged to have given the following speech at end of the Interfaith Freedom March in the outskirts of Ramallah on Oct. 6th. The three first lines of the speech, derived from the Torah, the Qur'an and the New Testament, were shouted through the loudspeaker during the march several times without resistance from anyone.

La Ilaha Illallah (There is no God but Allah, Qur’an)
Adonai, Elohaynu, Adonai Echad (The Lord is our God, the Lord is One, from the Schema, Torah)
God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Ghost (Christian prayer)

One God has brought us together without violence, Muslims, Christians, Jews, and others,
To profess our love for our brothers and sisters, in Palestine and Israel, as God has taught us to do.

Look at us, in God’s name we come together without arms, only with the Bible, The Qur’an the Torah, and with an open heart.

Take note, members of the press; this is a group representative of all of Palestine, which is ready for a durable peace. Take note, Palestinians are like you and me, members of the press, they are not a bunch of bloodthirsty terrorists.

Similar to the situation in Ireland and other conflict areas, residents of the area have become fed up with, as well as exhausted and disgusted by the violence and truly seek peaceful coexistence.

As a result, many are laying down their arms, working on interfaith projects to take religion/spirituality out of the conflict and working within the political system to bring about change in a permanent, nonviolent way.

Wake up world and accept Palestine as a peace-loving country ready to do good and turn the page on the past.

We are here to counter-balance, make up for the filtered and false information about the suffering of the people in the area. Their suffering has become invisible with exaggerated reporting on incidents of violence and subsequent retaliation, often dominating the news and distracting the world from focusing on the day to day suffering of the residents in the area.

We are here to bring together of all human rights groups in the area to expedite peace and freedom. We wish to assist humanitarian efforts to improve the education of people and the economic environment.

This event will set up a concerted and consistent effort in furtherance of freeing the area from the terrible bondage of continued conflict.

It’s time to open up our doors, let Palestinians and Israelis embrace each other as brothers and sisters, that this cruel occupation must end as a precursor to peaceful coexistence on the condition that adequate security measures are taken by both sides to preserve the peace.

Moreover, removing all West Bank settlements would help in diffusing the tension accelerating since 1967.

The West Bank is not like Gaza at the end of the occupation, the West Bank will rise up as an angel of peace and will move forward as a free country, creating a cultural and economic interdependence with Israel.

Let this march be a precursor to freedom through love and understanding by bringing all people together, as brothers and sisters and as children of the creator, showing the world that all people want peace in Israel and Palestine.

TRIP TO ISRAEL AND PALESTINE:

Just returned from a month’s trip (July 08) to Israel (one week) and Palestine (three weeks) to talk with people and learn about the peace process. I visited Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Ramallah, Jenin, Nablus, Jericho, Bethlehem and Hebron.

I met Christians, Jews and Muslims in Israel and Palestine and they all agreed that it’s time for a durable peace. The visit inspired me to organize and lead the Interfaith Freedom March scheduled on Oct. 6^th, 2008, from Ramallah to Jerusalem. (See plan below)

Everyone is invited on the condition that this be a March with all brothers and sisters for peace, for love and for true understanding.

I am organizing an INTERFAITH FREEDOM MARCH from Ramallah (West Bank) to Jerusalem scheduled for Oct. 6th. See the plan below.

However, the INTERFAITH FREEDOM MARCH from Jerusalem to Ramallah, originally scheduled for the same day, has been postponed and will be scheduled for a later date.

INTERFAITH FREEDOM MARCH

The Interfaith Freedom March will take place on Oct. 6. The group which will set out from Ramallah (“Height of God"), Place al Manara, at 11 am, headed to Jerusalem, Yerushal’ayim al-Quds.

The truth is that residents of the area are ready for a durable peace, even those who were not ready a year or two ago. Similar to the situation in Ireland and other conflict areas, residents of the area have become fed up with, as well as exhausted and disgusted by the violence and truly seek peaceful coexistence.

As a result, many are laying down their arms, working on interfaith projects to take religion/spirituality out of the conflict and working within the political system to bring about change in a permanent, nonviolent way.

A purpose of this march is also to counter-balance the filtered and false information about the suffering of the people in the area, notably Palestinians and Israelis. Their suffering has become invisible in the face of narratives with no basis in reality and exaggerated reporting on incidents of violence and subsequent retaliation, often dominating the news and distracting the world from focusing on the day to day suffering of the residents in the area.

MID-MANHATTAN LIBRARY EVENT

The 2nd author tour was crowned by an incredible two-hour event at Mid-Manhattan Library in NYC on Oct. 13th during which I gave a power point presentation about the book and interfaith activities. There were over 70 people and the director of events even showed up on a Saturday! It followed by a very lively debate among boisterous New Yorkers.

My next stop on the second author tour was in Exeter, England at the SPCK Bookstore on Saturday, October 20th. The bookstore is situated next to the beautiful Exeter Cathedral where my British family attended services.
